​Moncton Deputy Mayor Shawn Crossman running for
​re-election in Ward 1

MONCTON, N.B. – Deputy Mayor Shawn Crossman announced today that he will be running for re-election in Moncton’s Ward 1 in the municipal election to be held on Monday, May 9. Mr. Crossman is a lifelong resident of Ward 1 and works as an independent sales and distribution representative for furniture and appliances.
 
“Since first being elected in 2012, I have worked very hard with residents, my fellow councillors, City of Moncton staff and provincial government officials to continue the growth of Ward 1,” Mr. Crossman said. “By listening and working with the residents of Ward 1, we have seen many great projects succeed. I want to continue that trend not only for the benefit of Ward 1, but for the entire City of Moncton.”
 
His fellow councillors elected him Deputy Mayor in 2014 and again in 2015. Some of his other activities and accomplishments while on council include:

  • Appointed co-chair of the City of Moncton Operations Committee in 2012
  • Member of the following committees:
    • Irishtown Nature Park Committee
    • Public Safety Advisory Committee
    • Crossman Community Centre-Kay Arena Committee
    • City of Moncton Service Excellence Oversight Committee
    • Tri-Community RCMP Volunteer Policing Services Board
    • Snow Removal Committee
  • Active member of Cities of New Brunswick Association
    • Member of Executive Committee
    • Member of Resolutions Committee
    • Elected by membership as 1st Vice-President
  • Appointed to Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and has served on committees such as:
    • Community Safety and Crime Prevention
    • International Relations
    • Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development
    • Social-Economic Development
    • FCM Atlantic Caucus
    • Joint committee with the FCM, Corrections Services Canada and National Parole Board (2014)
  • In 2015, elected by the Southeast Regional Service Commission to the Southeast Regional Service Finance Committee.
 
Some of the projects Mr. Crossman has accomplished in the past four years include:

  • Successfully moved a motion to save the East End Pool for local children with a $1-million budget
  • Worked with City of Moncton staff and the Province of New Brunswick for new Elmwood Drive Interchange with Trans-Canada Highway
  • Worked to ensure new fire station for Caledonia Road
  • Worked to ensure new water pumping station on Elmwood Drive
  • Improvements to Shediac Road infrastructure, Drummond Street, Highlandview Road, Lewisville Road and Pleasant Street, including streets in Sunny Acres area
  • Collaborated with École Champlain and local businesses to address concerns around the school
  • Improvements to Ellerdale Park and East Street Park
 
“Not only is it important to represent the residents of your own ward, but it’s also vital that members of council represent the City of Moncton’s interests in associations such as the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Cities of New Brunswick Association,” Mr. Crossman said. “If we don’t, who will? We need to ensure that the City of Moncton’s voice is heard at the provincial and federal levels!”
 
“I was born and raised in Ward 1 and have represented its residents on Moncton City Council since 2012, both as councillor and deputy mayor,” he says. “I have listened to the people and worked for the people of Ward 1 and the City of Moncton. I have had the unique privilege of contributing to the leadership of this great city and a unique opportunity to make Moncton the best it can be”
 
“The residents of Ward 1 and the City of Moncton need credible, fiscally responsible, personable and hard-working councillors working for them with city staff and other government officials to make sure Ward 1 and the City of Moncton continue to move forward.”

Mr. Crossman lives with his life partner, Beverly Dawson. His daughter Isabelle is a student at École l’Odyssée. He also serves as a volunteer hockey coach with Lewisville Minor Hockey and is an active member of St. Bernard’s Church parish.
